For those residing or working in the "Jewel" of Mississauga, 2010 is all about the history of Port Credit, which celebrates its 175th anniversary this year. Roc'n Doc's, located in the village core at 105 Lakeshore Road East, is a little building with a history all its own.

If you have been a lifelong resident of Port Credit, chances are that you remember the building when it was the Port Credit Dairy back in 1948. Remnants of the dairy are still in existence today. The built-in safe still sits on the east wall in the main seating area, and the fully functioning walk-in cooler with its six inch solid oak door is still operational.

The Dairy was then transformed into Freddie's Deli. Soon after, a Jazz Bar known as Penny Lane's opened in the same location. Many folks still talk about the days not so long ago when it was known as Buttons, a place of gathering, with a reputation that has preceded its existence. It wasn't until 1994 that it became Roc'n Doc's, and in 1998, current owners Mike Griffin and John Krush assumed ownership of what is now officially called Roc'n Doc's Live Music Grill and Rooftop Patio.

The building has undergone some major facelifts since Mike and John took over twelve years ago. From the bold blue with animated characters to a little more sophisticated grey and burgundy to the most recent and probably most popular, the new Rooftop Patio. Port Credit's only rooftop patio has become "the place to be" on these unseasonably warm, bright spring days. Just remember to apply your sunscreen and get there early, because the patio has a capacity for 40 and fills up quickly. The patio hours are 11 a.m. – 10 p.m. Sunday to Thursday and 11 a.m. – 11 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.
