Shazaam Hair Studio helps Mentor College strut their stuff
On April 17, Shazaam Hair Studio volunteered their time to help out Mentor College with their 14th annual Fashion Show. The event raised an astounding $46,000 for Credit Valley Hospital and YouthWithout Shelter. Congratulations to everyone who took part!

Waterside Inn Cleans Up
On April 23, a team from The Waterside Inn set out to clean up J.J. Plaus Park as part of their contribution to Earth Day celebrations across the world. (From L-R) General Manager Ralph Schwengers, Banquet Manager Brian Hornick, Conference Services Manager Nicole Keleher and Food/Beverage Supervisor Tony Pereira all did their part to clean up the environment!

Design Hope Peel
On April 30, Design Hope Peel held its first annual fine art auction to benefit Family Services of Peel at Clarke Hall. Inspired by the theme of "immigration and diversity", local artists created pieces from mediums such as painting, photography and sculpture and auctioned them off to benefit Family Services of Peel. More than $12,000 was raised during the fundraiser.

P.C. 175 Grant
The Port Credit 175th Anniversary Committee recently received a $25,000 grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) to help with key events and programs that will be held throughout the year, as well as fund a commemorative plaque, supplies and entertainment. A recognition plaque was presented on May 1 by Foundation chair Luz Del Rosario to the committee's honorary chair, Carmen Corbasson, at Memorial Park. The 175th Anniversary committee is a volunteer-driven collaborative project between the Lions Club of Mississauga – Credit Valley and other organizations and groups.

The Compass receives first shipment from MFB
On May 11, the first delivery of food from The Mississauga Food Bank was delivered to the Port Credit Compass Market Food Bank. The Compass recently joined The Mississauga Food Bank Network, and will now serve clients living in the L5G and L5J postal code areas. "The Compass is very pleased to partner with The Mississauga Food Bank to feed people in our community," said Brian McGoey, Chairman of the Board for The Compass. "We feel the the two organizations complement each other in a way which will be very positive for our clients."

Bike 4 Betty
On Sunday, May 30, the Trillium Health Centre's Bike 4 Betty annual fundraising event will be held at Port Credit Memorial Park from 7 a.m. – 2 p.m. The event includes bike rides for all ages and skill levels, including a 15K family ride and 100K road ride for advanced bikers. Participants who register for the event and get pledges from the community will receive a free t-shirt (with minimum pledge), bag and bike check. A post-ride Family Fun Festival will also be held in the afternoon at the park. Call the Trillium Health Centre Foundation at 905-848-7575 for more information.

On June 4, take part in a night dedicated to girls all around the world hosted by Mississauga's newest up and coming clothing entrepreneurs, Bell and Barksdale. Featuring some of the hottest local musical talents performing all night, this is one event you won't want to miss! Musical acts include Port Credits' very own Mike Celia (a Mississauga MARTY Award nominee) and Japonica Mane. Everyone is encouraged to come out and support this groundbreaking event. Proceeds from ticket sales will go to "Because I am a Girl," a global campaign to claim a brighter, safer future for girls. The fundraiser will be held at The Crooked Cue, located at 75 Lakeshore Road East. Tickets are $10 at the door. Port Credit Canada Day Parade
Join the "Village By The Lake" on Thursday, July 1 as we honour Port Credit's 175th Anniversary and our Nation's Birthday with a massive Canada Day parade! Beginning at 11 a.m. sharp, the parade will travel along Stavebank Rd S. to Lakeshore from the Port Credit Marina. It will then travel eastbound along Lakeshore Road East to Seneca Avenue - ending at Mentor College. The parade will include Canadian and local heroes, marching bands, professionally-built floats, a Classic Car parade, mascots and costumed characters, colour guards, baton troupes and many more! Rotary Movie Nights
The Rotary Club of Mississauga-Lakeshore will once again hold Rotary Outdoor Movie Nights in Memorial Park this summer, which attract visitors as well as locals. The movie nights will be held on on July 9, 16, 23 and August 6, 13 and 27. Movie selections and times will be available on the Rotary website by early June. From July 16-18, artists from across southern Ontario will showcase a variety of media at the Credit Village Marina during the 12th Annual Port Credit Art Show! Cloverleaf Garden Club
The Cloverleaf Garden Club of Mississauga meets at the Mississauga Seniors' Centre (located at 1389 Cawthra Road) on the 3rd Wednesday of every month (except July, August and December) from 7:30 – 9:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome to visit this local gardening club, which was established in 1944 and is a proud member of the Ontario Horticultural Association. Cloverleaf is well known in the community for their annual plant sale and their annual garden tour. At the monthly meetings, knowledgeable speakers are brought in to talk on a variety of garden subjects. The feature presentation is followed by a judged flower show and time to socialize over tea, coffee and baked goodies. Come and join the fun, improve and share your knowledge of gardening, and make new friends in the process.
